Directors of Northside Broadcasting Co-operative

The Northside Radio Board consists of 8 independent non-executive directors.

Our 2NSB directors are passionate about Northside Radio and bring a wide range of media, not-for-profit, legal, business and commercial skills to the board.

The key role of the board is to provide oversight and governance to ensure Northside Radio remains on air, providing great music and local content for our vibrant North Shore community.

In doing so, the board oversees the strategic direction of the cooperative, with a focus on all governance issues and associated business functions (regulatory, financial, legal, audit and risk).

The board ensures our radio programs are delivered as effectively and efficiently as possible, to make the most of funds donated by our wonderful sponsors, subscribers and members.

2NSB has five associated committees and three sub-committees to assist with the effective running of the station.

2NSB Board meet monthly. Officers are elected annually at the Northside Radio AGM.

Ray Hood – Casual Director

Ray grew up in Balgowlah and Wahroonga on Sydney’s North Shore, so has a great affinity with the Northside so to speak… he also spent many years living in the UK in the sixties as a child, and later in the 90s and naughties… he has worked in advertising and publishing as an art director and then moved into publications management with NGOs and the University sector. He has a BA in Media Studies and History from Macquarie and a Design Diploma from Billy Blue. These days he makes music, playing Jazz guitar around Sydney venues, and also art and does the drive-time experience (Music Inside Out),  Thursdays 4pm on Northside Radio. He does casual work for GFK Media on the national radio ratings so has a good insight into the industry and its changing landscape.

Mathew Magee – Casual Director

Mathew is currently Northside Radio’s Technical Director and a member of the Engineering and Technical sub-committee.

Mathew has always had an interest in technology and has been involved in broadcasting for most of his career. He has worked for the ABC, Channel Nine, BAI Communications, Paramount Global, and as manager of an engineering consultancy providing advice to many media and communications organisations. He has expertise in roles anywhere from camera and microphone to antenna and towers – and everywhere in between.  He holds a Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney.

Mathew’s first involvement with 2NSB was for “a couple of hours” one afternoon in 1998… since then he has been involved with many technology projects at the station, including the frequency change to 99.3MHz, transmission and antenna upgrades, IT and infrastructure refresh, and most recently, the refurbishment of Studio 1.

Mathew joined the Board to fill a casual vacancy in 2022. His aim is to ensure that the board considers technology issues and opportunities in the decision-making process, and to equip the station with appropriate practical technology support and systems, to make radio that serves our community.
