–On Ron’s Golden Oldies this Thursday 24th February From…noon to 4pm… Ron Remembers….DRIVE-IN MUSIC
On this week in 1954, the first Drive-In theatre opened in Australia… in Melbourne. The first Sydney Drive-Ins opened simultaneously in Frenchs Forest and Dundas on 24 October 1956. The original Drive-ins were opened in the U.S.A on 6 June 1933. By 1958, that number peaked at 4,063. In Australia the number peaked at 330 in the 1970s….but after television was introduced in 1956, numbers gradually declined to about 17 remaining today.
Ron will be recalling the history of the Drive-In and playing some of the 50s & 60s “Drive-In” songs in his Golden Oldies radio program this Thursday, 24 Feb.
