The Ration Challenge

The Ration Challenge is a nationwide fundraiser for schools and youth groups held during Refugee Week, organised by the international humanitarian agency Act for Peace.

Never before have so many people had to flee their homes due to conflict and disasters. There are now 122.6 million (that’s 1 in 67) people without the peace of a safe place to call home.

In these unprecedented times, the ability to empathise with others has never been so important. The Ration Challenge provides opportunities for young people to develop their empathy and intercultural understanding of one of the greatest humanitarian issues of our time.

During this immersive learning experience, young people get sponsored to eat the same rations as a refugee in Jordan for 3 days – just a small amount of rice, flour, lentils, chickpeas, beans, fish and oil.

Every participating school or youth group is given a personal fundraising page so they can ask friends and family to sponsor them. Teachers, Youth Leaders, parents and guardians can take part in the challenge too!

By sharing this experience, young people develop greater awareness of current global issues and the challenges faced by people who are displaced.

The funds raised help provide emergency food, healthcare, and essential support for refugees and communities uprooted by conflict and disaster. Ultimately supporting them to regain the peace of a safe place to belong.

In the face of this unprecedented humanitarian displacement crisis, there’s never been a more important time to act for peace.

Together, we can inspire a generation to be peacemakers in the world.
