The Limelight

Shaun Alexander is a dedicated record collector, soul selector and community broadcaster who has been playing records on a Sunday afternoon on Northside Radio, 99.3fm since 2003.

Shaun plays an eclectic mix of original soul, funk, disco, jazz, latin, gospel, folk, reggae, house and hip hop – joining the dots between styles and genres and making these sounds as accessible as possible to every listener – not just the trainspotters.

He grew up during the golden age of hip hop in the late 80s and early 90s, before discovering house music and immersing himself in Sydney’s thriving late 90s club scene. It was these influences that introduced him to the world of soul, jazz and disco, through the samples and remixes that formed the basis of so much of the music at the time.

From then on he dove head first into this musical wonderland, with a lifelong aim of discovering, acquiring and sharing all the best songs ever cut to vinyl.
