“..she began singing at age five”
Brenda Mae Tarpley (born December 11, 1944), known professionally as Brenda Lee, is an American singer. Known primarily for performing rockabilly, pop, country and Christmas music, she began singing at age five in local radio and television shows. She is the first woman to be inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2023, she was named by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest singers of all time. Having sold over 100 million records globally, Lee is one of the most successful American artists of the 20th century. She is the 16th Greatest Hot 100 female artist of all time. Her success in the 1960s earned her recognition as Billboard’s Top Female Artist of the Decade and one of the four artists who charted the most singles, behind Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Ray Charles.
Among her accolades include a Grammy Awards, four NARM Awards, three NME Awards and five Edison Awards. Some of Lee’s most successful songs include “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree“, “I’m Sorry”, “I Want to Be Wanted”, “Sweet Nothin’s”, “All Alone Am I”
She is estimated to have sold more than 100 million records
Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero (born December 12, 1937), known professionally as Connie Francis, is an American pop singer, actress, and top-charting female vocalist of the late 1950s and early 1960s. She is estimated to have sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
In 1960, Francis was recognised as the most successful female artist in Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Australia, and in every other country where records were purchased. She was the first woman in history to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, just one of her other 53 career hits.
Both are still with us and revered throughout the recording industry worldwide.
Ron will play many of these legends hits during the show, along with many more of the early pioneers.
