John Joseph Burnette (March 25, 1934 – August 14, 1964) was an American singer and songwriter of rockabilly and pop music. In 1952, Johnny and his brother, Dorsey Burnette, and their mutual friend Paul Burlison formed the band that became known as the Rock and Roll Trio. Promotional appearances were arranged on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, Steve Allen’s Tonight Show and Perry Como’s Kraft Music Hall, together with a summer tour with Carl Perkins and Gene Vincent. The Rock and Roll Trio disbanded in autumn 1957 and Johnny Burnette decided to try his luck in California. After linking up with teen idol Ricky Nelson, the brothers wrote successful songs for Ricky including “It’s Late”, “Believe What You Say” and “Waitin In School”.In 1960, Johnny had charting success with “Dreamin” and “Cincinnati Fireball” and many others. In Australia he had 4 big hits between 1960 and 1961. He joined Connie Francis in a tour of Australia in 1961.His life was cut short with a boating accident in 1964 at the age of 30.
