Ron Remembers…

The first true Rock & Roll Record

Is this the first true Rock & Roll Record?  in 1951 Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats…recorded “Rocket 88”

It was on this week in 1951 when Sam Phillips recorded this Swing and Jazz combo track in his Memphis Sun Recording Studios. In actual fact the recording was done with Ike Turner and His Delta Cats who were around in the late 40s.

It is credited to Jackie Brenston and regarded by many rock historians as the first true Rock and Roll record.

Ron will be playing ‘Rocket 88’ this and other early recordings from the pioneers of Rock & Roll on his Golden Oldies show this Thursday.
