Golden Oldies Christmas – Featuring – Lonnie Lee

Ron is featuring Aussie Rock & Roll icon Lonnie Lee on the program this Thursday

Lonnie Lee (born 18 September 1940), an Australian singer, who has fronted Lonnie Lee and the Leeman for decades.

He is a pioneer of Australian rockabilly music and has worked in the industry for over 60 years. At the peak of his career, Lonnie had eight top 100 singles, which included three top 20s, “Ain’t It So” (November 1959), “Starlight Star Bright” (January 1960) and “I Found a New Love (September).

He achieved five gold records and he continues to tour and perform into today. Lonnie started Sydney’s first rockabilly trio. In July 1959 he made his first TV appearances on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s rock and roll show, Six O’Clock Rock, as well as Nine Network’s Bandstand and later that year appeared in Lee Robinson’s feature length documentary Rock’n’Roll (1959). 

Lonnie still performs today with his popular one man show highlighting his early career and the jukebox songs of the 50s and 60s, backed with memorable videos and pics of the early Aussie RnR times and music. A must see show for RnR fans. More on Lonnie and his shows, visit: lonnielee.com

    I was listening this morning – January 18 -around 8:55 AM and heard a great song but didn’t get the band or song title. The DJ was an English guy who after the song talked about English football scores. I wonder if you could let me know the song title and artist. Thanks so much! James
